A vehicle inspection is most useful when the buyer knows exactly what evidence will be provided and what the inspection cannot prove. A few attractive photos are not enough for a high-value cross-border transaction.
1. Identify the specific vehicle
Ask for the available VIN or frame number and make sure it matches the written quotation, Proforma Invoice and inspection materials. Modern vehicles commonly use a manufacturer-assigned VIN for identification, but the transaction documents may also refer to a chassis or frame number.
2. Confirm configuration and production information
Check the model year, trim, powertrain, drive type, colour, production date and major options. China-market trim names can look similar while battery size, driver-assistance equipment, charging hardware or interior specification differs.
3. Review real photos and video
Request current, vehicle-specific materials rather than only official brand images. Useful coverage includes all four sides, roof, wheels, tyres, glass, interior, dashboard, odometer, warning lights, engine bay or charging area, luggage compartment and keys.
A continuous walk-around video can help connect the visible details to the same vehicle. Ask the inspector to show the identification number where practical and safe.
4. Check mileage and registration history
An odometer photo is one piece of evidence, not a complete mileage investigation. Compare the displayed mileage with service information, inspection records, registration dates and visible wear when those sources are available.
5. Look for condition indicators
Check panel alignment, paint observations, scratches, dents, wheel damage, tyre wear, glass damage, interior wear, fluid leaks, warning lights and abnormal sounds. Diagnostic scanning or paint measurement should only be promised when the necessary equipment and access are available.
6. EV and plug-in hybrid checks
Confirm the battery version, charging connector, displayed warnings and available charging evidence. Ask whether a battery state-of-health report can be produced. Do not treat the dashboard range estimate as a professional battery health result.
7. Write down the limitations
A remote inspection cannot guarantee future reliability or reveal every hidden defect. The report should distinguish observed facts, available records and items that were not tested. If a workshop lift, road test or battery report is required, agree this scope before payment.
8. Match inspection, payment and documents
Before transferring funds, confirm that the seller legal name and payment beneficiary match the transaction documents. For I Auto Export transactions, the agreed contracting and payment receiving entity is Shenzhen Xinxin Electronic Commerce Co., Ltd.

Reference: the United Nations describes a VIN as a manufacturer-assigned identifier used to distinguish an individual vehicle. The exact identification format and available records should still be confirmed for the specific market and vehicle.
